Final Monitor of Progress and Reflection on Successes and Failures

1) Video hits: After a week of advertising I discovered that I had 17 views for my video. I think that this is a good number considering that this is the first ever time I've done something like this and also the fact that its in a week. Despite this, I believe that my advert could have been much more successful. I only got 17 hits because I didn't have many means of advertising because I didn't have a Facebook or MySpace account. Even now that I have an account, I'm not really sure how to put a video up. I reckon that my video wasn't very successful, but didn't do badly. Like i said, I will use popular websites such as Facebook because the chance of someone seeing my video very much. However, I did advertise to some websites. These were either just general media websites (such as www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk) or anti-global warming sites (like www.cleanskies.com). I sent a short message and my video link to these sites. Only about two have responded, both of them saying that they've received my message. However, I haven't really got any comments on it yet.

2) What other feedback have I received? Apart from looking at how many hits that our videos got, we also needed to have an idea of how effective our adverts would be. In order to have an idea of this, we organised a focus group that would respond to each other's video. We looked at five certain aspects of the video: message, audience, technique, response and improvements. For message, most people believed that it was easy the understand but the main problem was that the captions were quite fast so it wasn't very easy to pick up the words. I got an average rating of 6.4 out of 10, which is good.

For audience, there were mixed opinions about who would respond to my video. 3 out of 5 people believed that my advert targeted 14-19 year olds effectively, which I was pleased about. However, one said that they will remember the song (I Feel Good) and another said that people of an older age would respond to this video, like 40 year olds.

For technique, the focus group said that my advert was well made. The main problem in my technique though was that the captions were quite short so it was quite hard to understand the message. Despite this, the group believed that my video was pretty good and the music went well with the scenes.

Response is related to my audience so the feedback between both of them was quite similar. Some of the group said it's not car-owners that might respond to this because it 'wasn't car related'. Some of the focus group had an opposite view though so, like the other feedback, this aspect it also mixed.

The main improvement that I required for my video was the speed of my captions. Generally, the focus group gave me good feedback apart from the captions. the advert was, on the whole, easy to understand but was also quite hard to understand because not everyone could catch the words on the screen. If I were to do this video again, the first thing I would do is to change the caption speed.

3) What went well with the whole project? e.g posters, analysis of other adverts I think that the posters went really well because the colour looked good and each one has good relevance to global warming. They also contained a good amount of facts. Another reason for why I believe that the posters were a success was because I was easily able to conclude on them and make two good paragraphs about where I' put them and how effective their message is.

Another activity which i thought was really successful was the campaign analysis that i produced. This is probably what I'm proud of because I was able to get a lot of information and I believe that its very thorough about the videos I looked at. It took a long time, but i believe that it was worth it.

One more thing which I thought was successful was the filming for my video.
